About Us

YOUR RIVER OUTFITTER!
In 1953 Grant & Betty King purchased Frank Johnson's Newsstand and turned it into King's News & Tackle. Grant was a big man with a warm heart that shared his art of fly tying with anyone who wanted to know. At one point Grant was considered one of the top 10 fly tiers in the world. He is known for inventing a well-known fly called "the boss" that he named after his wife Betty.

In 1988 Grant passed away. Betty wanted to sell the store to someone that had fishing knowledge of the area. Steve Jackson had learned to fish from Grant and so in 1989 Steve took over the business. Steve brought in more apparel and sporting goods and rebranded the store as King's Sport & Tackle. After 30+ years of running the business, Steve has passed the torch to his longtime manager Scott Heemstra.
Not just a tackle store anymore, we carry the necessities for enjoying the river life. We carry apparel for all seasons, footwear, bathing suits, inflatables, camping gear, bike accessories, raingear, rainboots, emergency items.....you name it!
